Highlights of The New I-64 project include:
- The rebuilding and upgrading of all pavement, bridges and interchanges between Spoede Road in St. Louis County and Kingshighway Blvd. in St. Louis City
- New high quality interstate-to-interstate connection between I-64 and I-170
- Addition of one lane in each direction between Spoede Road and I-170
- Increased traffic flow through better design, with elimination of short, tight entrance/exit ramps and merges, addition of dedicated exit lanes
- Enhanced safety with wider shoulders

Regional Road Changes: The Post I-64 Plan

Prior to I-64 reconstruction, improvements were made to many of the region’s roads to
accommodate extra traffic volumes. Interstates 70 and 44 were restriped with an extra lane in each direction. After I-64 reconstruction is complete, these interstates will be resurfaced and striped back to their original configurations – three lanes in each direction on I-70 and four lanes in each direction on I-44.
Eastbound I-64 at I-270 will be restriped to three through lanes, one of which splits to northbound I-270, and a fourth lane exits only to southbound I-270 (see Downloads page for detailed drawing).
In 2010, the southbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 ramp will be restriped to one lane, and MoDOT will reopen the eastbound I-44 ramp to Watson Road. The I-270 ramp to eastbound I-70 will be extended halfway to St. Charles Rock Road.
The traffic signals on Page Avenue (MO 364), Olive Boulevard (MO 340), Manchester Road (MO 100) and Lindbergh Boulevard (US 61/67) have been upgraded with new equipment. MoDOT and its contractor will monitor traffic and make spot changes to signal timing in response to changing patterns after I-64 reopens.
